her-science-her-story
Her Science, Her Story: Women in Science Stitchalong

This listing is to purchase the Her Science, Her Story: Women in Science cross stitch pattern, celebrating just a few of the incredible women who have changed the story of science. This was previously run as a stitchalong and is now available as a complete pattern. You will also receive an additional mini pattern with the inspiring words "let your curiosity guide you".

The patterns include written introductions to every woman in the piece, so you can get to know them and their amazing achievements as you stitch!

The instant download PDF booklets give all the information you need to stitch the pattern, including a thread list, pattern size and suggestions on choosing fabric. You will also receive pattern booklets for the accompanying mini pattern, and comprehensive stitching instructions.

If you’re not already in the busy and friendly Climbing Goat Designs stitchers Facebook group, please come and join us there if you’d like to chat and share your progress – we’d love to have you there!

The stitched area of the finished piece is: 85 stitches wide x 110 stitches high

On 14 count fabric this is approximately 6.1 x 7.9 inches or 15.4 x 20.0 cm
On 16 count fabric this is approximately 5.3 x 6.9 inches or 13.5 x 17.5 cm
On 18 count fabric this is approximately 4.7 x 6.1 inches or 12.0 x 15.5 cm

Other count fabrics can be used - just adjust the sizing accordingly.

These dimensions do not include the border of fabric you will need to leave around the design. I recommend you leave a further 2-3 inches all the way round (which means that you need to add 4-6 inches to your size measurements).

Suggested hoop sizes are:
For 14 count fabric: 9 inch hoop
For 16 count fabric: 8 inch hoop
For 18 count fabric: 7 inch hoop

I model stitched the pattern on 16 count printed fabric called ‘Ocean’ by Fabric Flair. This fabric is mottled blue with a slightly greeny tint, and all the stitching shows up well on it. The fabric is available from online UK shop Lakeside Needlecraft, along with thread packs and hoops for this pattern.

This pattern contains both pale and dark stitching, so a medium toned fabric is best. It doesn’t have to be blue; you could go for most other colours. I would suggest avoiding yellow or brown fabrics as the colours might not show well on those.

The pattern isn’t designed to be stitched on very dark fabric. If your fabric is pale, you can always add extra backstitch around the women to make them stand out if needed.

24 thread colours are used in the design. You will need one skein or less of each colour. The pattern features full cross stitches, backstitch, one fractional backstitch and a few French knots (in the women’s names only).

You will receive four PDF pattern booklets (two for each pattern): one for each pattern with charts with colour blocks and symbols, and one for each pattern with charts with black and white symbols (with colour backstitch). Each booklet has a single page chart for screen use, and a split page chart for printing.

You will also receive comprehensive cross stitch instructions.

Skill level: Suitable for those with a little experience of cross stitch.

This listing is for PDFs of these patterns; it is not a completed piece nor a kit, so no fabric, thread or other materials are included. The charts are Instant Download so you can start stitching straight away!

A link to the downloads will be sent to the email address you give when you order. There will also be a link to download the files directly from the completed order page. The files are sent as PDFs in one zip file. Please unzip the file (right click > extract all) after downloading, and then you can open each PDF within the file.

You may need Adobe Reader to open the PDF files.
