Her Science, Her Story: Women in Science Stitchalong
This listing is to purchase the Her Science, Her Story: Women in Science Stitchalong! This is a smaller stitchalong featuring six incredible women who have change the story of science. On purchasing you will also receive an additional mini pattern with the inspiring words "let your curiosity guide you".
This is a mystery stitchalong, so you won’t see the other pattern sections until they are revealed each month. The stitchalong runs in fortnightly installments for six sections, from June to August 2026. The photographs in this listing show the pattern sections released so far.
When you purchase the stitchalong, you will receive by instant download introductory PDF booklets, and all the patterns released so far. The introductory booklet gives all the information you need to prepare to stitch the pattern, as well as the chart for the central text, so you can stitch this straight away. This includes a thread list, pattern size, suggestions on choosing fabric and a short written introduction to the history of women in science. You will also receive pattern booklets for the accompanying mini pattern, and comprehensive stitching instructions.
Note that the initial download link will be sent to the email address given in your order, not to the email address you've typed in the request box, if the two are different. There will also be a link to download the file directly from the completed order page. The files are sent as PDFs in one zip file. ***You will receive the patterns by digital download and email, and not by physical mail. No physical products are included in this purchase.***

The stitched area of the finished piece is: 85 stitches wide x 110 stitches high
On 14 count fabric this is approximately 6.1 x 7.9 inches or 15.4 x 20.0 cm
On 16 count fabric this is approximately 5.3 x 6.9 inches or 13.5 x 17.5 cm
On 18 count fabric this is approximately 4.7 x 6.1 inches or 12.0 x 15.5 cm
Other count fabrics can be used - just adjust the sizing accordingly.
These dimensions do not include the border of fabric you will need to leave around the design. I recommend you leave a further 2-3 inches all the way round (which means that you need to add 4-6 inches to your size measurements).
I model stitched the pattern on 16 count printed fabric called ‘Ocean’ by Fabric Flair. This fabric is mottled blue with a slightly greeny tint, and all the stitching shows up well on it. The fabric is available from online UK shop Lakeside Needlecraft, along with thread packs and matching hoops for this stitchalong.
This pattern contains both pale and dark stitching, so a medium toned fabric is best. It doesn’t have to be blue; you could go for most other colours, as the thread colours used within the pattern are quite varied. I would suggest avoiding yellow or brown fabrics as the colours might not show well on those.
The pattern isn’t designed to be stitched on very dark fabric. If your fabric is pale, you can always add extra backstitch around the women to make them stand out if needed.
24 thread colours are used in the design. You will need one skein or less of each colour. The pattern features full cross stitches, backstitch, one fractional backstitch and a few French knots (in the women’s names only).
On each section release date you will receive two pattern booklets, one with colour patterns and one with black & white patterns (with colour backstitch). The pattern booklets include split page and single page patterns of the whole charts, and a single page pattern just of that release's section. All patterns are repeated without backstitch. Each booklet finishes with some writing about the achievements of the woman you are stitching.
Skill level: Suitable for those those with a little experience of cross stitch.
Patterns are for personal use only.
